Cleared out!

snowplowAll the credit and thanks in the world should be given to the Glen Rock municipal government snow cleanup crew for their unbelievable work over the past two weeks. The continuous snowfall had many parents in Glen Rock wondering how long kids would be out of school and how tough it would be to get them there once the schools re-opened. To most parents’ surprise, just 24 hours after the storm not only were the roads clear and clean but the parking lots were dug out, open and ready for business. Getting the kids to the schools was no different than any other day (getting out of our driveways, that was potentially a different story :-) .

Thanks Glen Rock and nice work. You made the job of being a Glen Rock parent that much easier this winter.

While the GRDPW seems to have done the job they are paid to do, I feel they are not thinking about the taxpaying, shoveling, homeowner.
During the snow removal process on my street the plows drive too fast and throw street snow in big chunks onto the sidewalks AFTER we have cleaned them. It is one thing to shovel fresh snow. But it is not fun (or necessary) to remove snow from your sidewalk that is dumped there by a fast moving DPW truck.
There is a solution. DPW trucks should NOT try to plow to the curb. If they left a 2 foot buffer then the snow they plow could be deposited at the edge of the street and not on an already cleaned sidewalk.
The boro asks homeowners not to put snow into the street.
I ask the DPW do not put snow on our sidewalks - if you do then the DPW should be prepared to come clean the sidewalks.
  • You are dead on with this comment John. My lower back can attest to that. Especially with today's latest storm -- I cleaned up the drive and sidewalks last night only to find the fresh snowfall coupled with plow-spew. On top of that the snow-fortress that i have to cut down to get the cars out of the driveway entrance is formidable.

All that being said, they are doing their job (albeit they could try to be more considerate as you propose) and the roads and municipal lots have been decent in recent weeks.
