There’s a lot of room for improvement

Glen Rock Schools web siteIn most of the communications sent from the Glen Rock school system, they always reference “the web site.” If you need further information, it’s online and available at all times. That’s pretty sweet. Except it’s not. The web site is attrocious. Have you tried finding something on there lately?

The design is dated but, more importantly, the content is organized in such a way that it makes the adults using feel like first grade students. This is true of ALL the system’s sites and it’s time for a redesign. This shouldn’t have to be costly but even if it does cost a bit, the savings gained from the reduced time supporting curious and confused parents would be well worth the cost.

What do you think? Have you used the Glen Rock School System web sites? What was your experience. Tell us in comments.

    Hi Jeff,
I'm in the Glen Rock network on LinkedIn too. Congratulations on your blog. Nice job. Here's my comment on your post RE the GR public schools web site. Your criticism is fair, but incomplete, so now you have to go further, in my opinion. Give a concrete example - or better yet more than 1 example - of why you don't like it. Send your constructive criticism to the board president Rona McNabola. There's always room for improvement, and most people working for the schools know that.
    Sincerely,
    Doug
  • Thanks Doug and you bring up an excellent point. It's one thing to paint something as "bad" with a broad brush. It's another to point out specific examples to be addressed.

So, here's one specific example: snow days. There is no centralized, online place to go to to find out what the status is of school delays or closings in case of inclement weather. This information should be front and center on the home page of all school sites as soon as there is a decision. Trying to figure out by listening to radio or watching local tv is time-consuming and frustrating (if you miss your locality). The web site is a perfect place for this type of information and, I guarantee, will reduce calls to municipality offices in the future.
